Poonch, Dec 6: The upcoming by-election in the Poonch-Haveli constituency will go in annals of political history of Jammu and Kashmir as most prestigious and tough contest between two leading political parties.
The battle is now more between the candidates as it is a straight contest between the top brass of the National Conference and Congress. Apparently an unprecedented insecurity is prevailing among the parties as the polling dates draw near.
Today more than 20 legislators including over half a dozen ministers were roaming around Poonch lobbying for the candidates of their respective parties. Interestingly, unlike the usual elections where contestants under...

Senior BJP leaders have criticized the state Government for not providing much needed security cover to the party leaders who wanted to campaign for the candidate in Pooch Assembly constituency by-election.
The BJP candidate had contested the 2002 assembly elections from Poonch assembly constituency but could manage 641 votes –lowest number of votes polled by any candidate. Though the party leaders have since long been claiming to play a ma...

Jammu | Dec 5: With Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad engaged with the family following demise of his father in law, the civil secretariat has been wearing a deserted look since early this week with most of the Ministers away to Poonch or to their constituencies.
Even though today was a state holiday, but a majority of the Ministers have been away from winter capital since the beginning of this week. While senior Ministers are returning to the winter capital on Friday to attend the cabinet meeting on Saturday, the Ministers of State still have their tightly packed schedules to different areas.

| | | | Back to square one: SAC recommendations eat dust | | | | Early Times Reporter
Jammu | Dec 5
The Jammu and Kashmir government, which assured accountability and transparency in government sector, is rendering a cold shoulder to the recommendations of State Accountability Commission making it a canine-less tiger.

The institution 'State Accountability Commission' was established in December 2002 to inquire into grievances and allegations against public functionaries with an intention of making them responsible...

Jammu | Dec 5
In one of the rarest occasions even the terrorist friendly and pro secessionist sections of people in Kashmir have attributed the killings of four innocent Kashmiri youth to the militants and condemned the same. So much so that the hardcore secessionist and Islamic fundamentalist leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani who is otherwise supportive of the violence let loose by the militants has come out openly against the unabated spree of civilian killings in the wake of killing of four innocent civilians in his residential area of Sopore. It is still more ironical that the formidable terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba as well as United Jehad Council, a...
