10 killed, 41 wounded as bus rolled down

Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 18 At least ten persons, including four women, were killed and fourty-one others were wounded when a bus skidded off the road and fell in a deep gorge on Kathua-Basholi road, this afternoon. Official sources said that the number of deceased persons may go high as condition of more than six people was believed to be critical. Around fifteen injured passengers were later shifted to Government Medical College hospital for specialised treatment. Giving details, police spokesman said that a bus (JK02G-1495), which was on its way from Bani to Basholi skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge at Barnar Gala. Local residents and some labourers working on the road side noticed the bus meeting with the mishap and rushed to the spot. Police was also informed, which launched a rescue operation. Sources said that rescuers had to face a tough time to get the victims out of the gorge. The injured were shifted to Basholi government hospital, where the doctors declared nine of them as brought dead. One person later succumbed to injuries, sources added. ...

Early Times Reporter Jammu | Feb 18 Sudden death of Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohabbat Singh Raghuvanshi in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh has once again brought family members of Raju Chopra, awaiting arrest of mastermind and kingpin of 'Pardhi gang' Sangram Singh on their knees. Chopra was murdered in cold blood along with four others including wife and daughter in september 2006 by members of the Pardhi gang, police invesitgations in the recent months have revealed. Police armoury to be overhauled shortly

Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Feb18 The Jammu and Kashmir police has started preparations for the 2008 Assembly polls well in advance. Taking first step in this direction the state police authorities have decided to carry out major overhauling of its armoury machines and tools and in this connection the concerned officials have been asked to procure about 80 items required for cleaning and updating the armoury.
