Senior Cong leaders likely to join BJP during PM’s rally | | |

Jammu, Feb 18: Amid the joining of the many National Conference leaders in the BJP, there are rumours that a couple of senior Congress leaders may join the Saffron Brigade during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at Jammu on Tuesday. Although most of the BJP leaders are in Delhi attending national executive council meeting, Congress leaders, sources said, are in touch with some top BJP leaders. Sources said that two Jammu-based Congress leaders and some leaders from Kashmir Valley have opened a channel of communication with the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
“There is a possibility that these leaders may join the BJP during Prime Minister’s rally”, a source said and added that local BJP leaders have yet not confirmed any such developments.

Jammu, Feb 18: Tuesday’s scheduled rally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the third rally to be addressed by him at the Moulana Azad (MA) Stadium in Jammu.
After he was declared as BJP’s Prime Minister candidate in 2013, Narendra Modi addressed the “Lalkar Rally” at MA Stadium Jammu. That rally which was held on December 1, 2013, is still considered as biggest-ever political gathering in the history of Jammu and Kashmir.

Police and paramilitary forces are conducting random checking of vehicles at dozens of places in the city and elsewhere, officials said here on Sunday.

Srinagar, Feb 18: The Traffic Police on Sunday warned that obstructing ambulances could lead to Rs 10,000 fine or up to 6 months imprisonment.
A circular issued by the Traffic Department reads: “In case of any medical emergency movement, hospital administration and other health care centers operating in Kashmir are advised to communicate with Traffic Police Control Room for hassle free movement of patients within municipal limits of Srinagar.”

Srinagar, Feb 18: Authorities have closed the Srinagar-Leh Highway for vehicular movement due to snow accumulation at Baltal in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal District. Baltal is a camping ground for pilgrims, 75 km from Ganderbal and 93 km from Srinagar. It is located 15 kilometres to the north of Sonmarg.

Srinagar, Feb 18: Higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall even as plains of the valley received rains that brought down the temperatures by several degrees, officials said here on Sunday.
Snowfall has been reported in all hilly and mountainous areas of Kashmir since early morning, they said.
The plains of the valley, including Srinagar city, received light to moderate rains, they said.
The snowfall has closed several roads connecting the main valley to remote areas like Machil in Kupwara district, Gurez in Bandipora district and Sonamarg in Ganderbal district, officials said.

Srinagar, Feb 18: Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority (JK DMA) issued a low-danger level avalanche warning on Sunday for Anantnag and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir for the next 24 hours.
The warning said that the avalanche is likely above 2500 metres over the Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
JK DMA also issued a warning of an avalanche with a medium danger level over Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Ramban Bandipore, Baramulla, Kupwara and Ganderbal districts in the next 24 hours.
