JAMMU, Feb 17: The Indian Railways will start train services on the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section, a 48.1-kilometre-long significant segment of the country’s most ambitious Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link project, on February 20.
“We will get a step closure to realise our dream to connect Srinagar with Kanyakumari,” a source in the railways said.
“The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project is one of the most ambitious Himalayan railway projects post Independence,” he added.
According to sources in the railways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the section by virtually flagging off a train from Sangaldan.

Srinagar, Feb 17: The Kashmir region is bracing for a major spell of snowfall even as night temperatures rose above sub-zero levels, officials said on Saturday.
The meteorological centre in Srinagar said an extended wet spell is likely to begin over J&K and adjoining areas from Saturday night and will continue till the afternoon of February 21.
This year, J&K witnessed an extended dry spell, with just two spells of light to moderate snowfall between January 28 and February 3.
The wet weather forecast this time is expected to be intense as compared to the previous spells.

SRINAGAR, Feb 17: With the meteorological centre here predicting heavy snowfall, eight districts of Jammu and Kashmir received avalanche warning on Saturday.
The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) said avalanche with low danger level is likely to occur above 2,200 metres over districts of Bandipora, Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal in Kashmir and Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban in Jammu region in the next 24 hours.
