Jammu, May 22 – Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad Tuesday announced that Financial Commission would shortly be made functional to ensure equitable development of all areas in the state. Addressing block, tehsil and district level officers of Udhampur and Reasi districts at Udhampur, Chief Minister said that Central Government has provided huge funds to the state to accelerate the development process. “Only pro-active, transparent and prompt administrative machinery is required to deliver on ground”, he added. “I have initiated a campaign to interact with officers of all levels to sensitize them in respect of their responsibilities”, Chief Minister said adding that to bring about a positive socio-economic change, functionaries have to gear up to deliver. “You have to girdle the loins to give your best”, he told officers. He said that in most parts of the state working season is limited and topography challenging. Jammu May 22 Jammu observed a complete bandh responding to the call given by the Shri Akal Takhat, supported by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) and various other Sikh organizations to register their resentment against the ‘sacrilege act’ committed by head of the Dera Sacha Souda. The vehicular traffic and presence in the state and central government offices were thin in response to bandh call while public transport completely remained off from the roads. Devender Padha Jammu | May 22 Giving major relief and infusing fresh lease of security in the Under Graduate candidates, University of Jammu (JU) has decided to scrap the prevailing statue of examination which restricts a candidate to maximum of eight appearances in under graduate examination exceeding which he would be liable for debarment from appearing further. MUMBAI, MAY 22 In remarks tinged with sarcasm for his "high courage" for "personal gains", a TADA court today handed down the harshest punishment so far sentencing to life imprisonment a former police sub-inspector for allowing a truck laden with arms and ammunition to move on to Mumbai city which were later used in the 1993 serial blasts. Special TADA Judge P D Kode held that V K Patil did not deserve any leniency as he had misused and abused his official position as a police officer posted at Wethe Srivardhan police station at Raigad. JAMMU, MAY 22 In yet another air mishap, a MiG-21 fighter aircraft of IAF is feared to have crashed in the Basantgarh-Mahore mountains in Reasi district with a pilot on board also reported to be missing. The aircraft lost contact with ground control minutes after taking off from the Udhampur air base at 10.40 am according to an IAF spokesman in New Delhi. "The aircraft is missing and a land and air search has been launched to trace it", he said. Low clouds over the area are hampering the rescue operations, IAF Officials said.
