Jammu, July 13: Amidst a near total shut down in the winter capital, the mainstream and separatist leaders made a beeline ribbing shoulders with each other to offer their homage to the martyrs of 1931.
As warranted by precedence, the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was reported to be the first to visit the martyrs graveyard in downtown Srinagar. Among top mainstream leaders, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and NC president Omar Abdullah also visited the graveyard.
However, the Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir Pandit organisations here today observed a ''Black Day'' and held demonstrations in protest against what they termed as "loot, plunder and killing of people" during the revolt against the Dogra king in 1931. Protest rallies were held across Pakistan today, with Islamist demonstrators giving calls for "holy war" and terming President Pervez Musharraf a "killer" for ordering this week's bloody crackdown on the Lal Masjid.
In the capital, Islamist alliance Muthahida Majlis-e-Amal and Wafakul Madaris, an umbrella body of religious schools, held protests demanding the resignation of Musahrraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz over the military assault on the mosque.

Rajni Patil, the wife of Congress worker V G Patil who was murdered in Jalgaon in 2005, today moved the Bombay High Court, demanding that the CBI "interrogate" UPA's presidential candidate Pratibha Patil and her brother in connection with the case before the presidential poll.
Rajni Patil's petition stated that the CBI, which was directed by the Aurangabad bench of Bombay High Court to probe the case in February, must question Pratibha before July 19, the date for the presidential election because she might get "presidential immunity" if she wins the poll.
