Azad's 'Man Friday' says, Congress to run alone

Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sept 29 Amidst a lull prevailing ahead of storm, the Congress had today "unofficially" announced that it will go ahead alone in the next assembly elections. A handout issued by the state's Information Department and explicitly marked as "unofficial" quoted the Jammu and Kashmir Congress's senior state Vice President Abdul Gani Vakil as saying that his party will not have any electoral alliance with any entity for the next assembly elections. He also indirectly blamed the coalition partner Peoples Democratic Party of making attempts to destabilize the Azad government. "JKPCC Senior Vice President and MLC Abdul Gani Vakil Saturday said that Congress will fight 2008 Assembly Election in the state alone. As far now no decision has been taken to forge alliance with any political party", informed the handout. Vakil, it may be mentioned here, is Man Friday of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and this statement is believed to have been issued in full concurrence of the Chief Minister. Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 29 In a grim reminder of the decade of 1990s, the security forces today laid a siege around a mosque in Badgam district following reports that two militants are hiding inside. Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants, security forces and police launched a search operation in Tujan village in Budgam district of Central Kashmir this afternoon, the sources said. Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 29 The Government has placed under suspension the district social welfare officer of Pulwama for allegedly siphoning off lakhs of rupees meant for militancy affected victims and poor people. "I have placed the district social welfare officer Abdul Hafiz Shah under suspension pending an inquiry into his role in the alleged misappropriation of funds meant to be distributed among the distressed people," Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Mehraj Ahmad Kakroo said. Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 29 Normal life returned to normal in border township of Poonch, which witnessed communal tension on Friday after angry protest demonstrations rocked the town. Though over half a dozen people including two officers from police and revenue department were injured when protestors clashed with police on Friday afternoon in the town, the situation remained completely normal throughout the day, today.
