Cong likely to snap ties with NC
1/12/2014 11:26:28 PM
early times report
Jammu, Jan 12: The Congress has decided to snap ties with the National Conference if Omar Abdullah doesn't agree to give extension to the cabinet sub-committee on formation of new administrative units. Congress has categorically told the NC it can't accept the diktats.
"If Omar feels that he can get the things done because of his connections in Congress high command, then he is living in delusion. Party high command will take decision going by the aspirations and needs of the local leaders and we will give our report to the party high command on it," said a senior Congress leader, wishing not to be named.
Congress has already communicated to the party high command about political connotations involved in the setting up of new administrative units and also how NC is trying to get political mileage out of it.
"Omar is playing the card of Greater Kashmir, in line with the policies of his late grand father. It's for this reason that demand for creating Chenab Valley and then Pir Panchal valley are being aired and sub-committee is being made to listen to it and incorporate it in the report. It has potential of communal polarization in the Jammu region and this can't be accepted," said a Congress leader.
Congress also feels that Omar is taking this desperate measure by arm twisting Congress for political gains. Congress leadership has communicated to the party high command that Omar is using this ploy for political gains and nothing more.
"NC is going for rout in the coming Parliamentary and state election. Even the seat of Farooq Abdullah is not secure. It's for this reason Omar is not playing this card. We know their game and will not allow him to succeed. He is crossing the wrong party and at wrong time," said Cong minister.
Cong has also told the party high command that even if the report is submitted it needs to be first read and analysed. The party has to see if the report is in line with the aspirations of the people and this had to cross checked. It also involves huge financial cost and this can't be done in such hurried manner.
