Soz reacts to Omar's Saaz
‘New units cannot be created in haste’

JAMMU, Jan 12: Even as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was all fire against its alliance partner-Congress alleging the party was "creating hurdles" in setting up of new administrative units, the state leadership of the grand old party preferred to take a cautious stand in responding to the statement.
The open attack on Congress by Omar Abdullah at Vijaypur yesterday has reflected that camaraderie among the coalition partners is at its lowest ebb and the differences on variety of issues are out in open.
Reacting to Omar Abdullah's remarks, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz told Early Times that the exercise involving creation of new administrative units is a hectic process and it should not be carried out in haste.
Soz said January 15 deadline for creation of new administrative units is not 'workable' as the cabinet Sub-committee which is visiting nook and corner of the state will finalize its report within a day or two.
"The cabinet sub committee appointed by the cabinet is going from district to district. They are going to conclude their public meetings within a day or two…. Then they will share their findings with the cabinet because the information gathered from the ground by the cabinet Sub-committee needs to be analyzed and then only it can be shared with the cabinet for the future course of action…. So fixing January 15 as a deadline is not workable," Soz observed.
However, a senior Congress leader and legislator reacted sharply to Chief Minister's remarks saying that the statement was made on pure 'political considerations'.
Wishing anonymity, he said that Omar is trying to project that National Conference is very much concerned for administrative units but had he ever talked of delimitation of Assembly constituencies which is equally important for the people of the state.
"If creation of new administrative units is an issue of concern for the Chief Minister then why he is silent on delimitation of Assembly segments…. Delimitation is as important as setting up new administrative units….. Congress stand on both the issues is clear… The party wants new administrative units as well as delimitation of assembly constituencies."
He further said that CM's rhetoric on administrative units is a tactic to pressurize the cabinet Sub-committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand. It is a ploy of National Conference to execute its political agenda as it wants to go for administrative units in a hush-hush manner which is totally unacceptable to Congress.
With the war of words between the Congress and National Conference has intensified in the face of Omar Abdullah's statement, it seems both the parties are in no mood to relent and would miss no opportunity to outdo each other in the near future.
