| LC polls: Coalition wins but analysis of results not in its favour | | PDP gainer in Kashmir, NPP consolidates in Jammu | | early times report
Jammu, Dec 6: The results of four seats for Legislative Council indeed show that the ruling National Conference-Congress coalition has swept the polls by bagging all the four seats, two seats shared each by NC and Congress in two regions of the state. But a macro anatomy and broad analysis of the results actually indicate that PDP has emerged as gainer in Kashmir region whereas in most of the belts of Jammu region on both J1 and J2 constituency it is the J&K National Panthers Party which has gained considerably by securing good number of votes than other party in the region.Coalition candiates won with support of two parties whereas PDP and PP has performed well on their own. Broader details of the results show that for the K-1 constituency of Kashmir province, National Conference candidate Ali Mohammad Dar defeated his nearest rival Peer Muhammad Hussain of People’s Democratic Party by a margin of 2675 votes. Of the 16155 votes polled for the constituency, Dar secured 8586 votes while as Peer Hussain got 5911 votes. Similarly, for the K-2 seat, Ghulam Nabi Monga of Congress defeated his nearest rival Yasir Reshi of PDP by a margin of 2565 votes. Monga secured 8659 votes while as Reshi got 6094 votes. However, it is more than evident that PDP has emerged as the virtual gainer in Kashmir even though it has not been able to win the seats. No one can deny that coalition candidates won the seats by contesting the polls together which means that it is the support of both NC as well Congress that helped Ali Mohammad Dar, to register victory by securing 8586 votes . On the other hand his nearest rival Peer Mohammad Hussain of PDP secured 5911 votes which are the votes of just one single party without support of any other party. The victory margin is just 2675 votes, which actually suggests that PDP has more sound base at grass level than Congress or NC as seen separately. Similarly, for K2 GN Monga of Congress registered victory by securing 8659 votes against his nearest rival Yasir Reshi of PDP who secured 6094 votes. The victory margin on this seat is again around 2565 votes which amply suggests that PDP has far better position in terms of vote strength than what NC and Congress cumulatively has managed. In nut shell PDP has managed to give a tough fight to both NC and Congress on both seats of Kashmir. Poll results for Jammu region also show some interesting factors. Even though main rival of coalition PDP has not been able to give a tough fight in terms securing votes but a worrying factor for coalition which may be hard to assimilate for both the parties is that notwithstanding its no so good performance, it has been able garner a good number of votes in areas where it has yet to make inroads or register itself as a strong political force. Similarly one more harsh fact ,particularly Congress is that it is J&K National Panthers Party which has secured good number of votes in many places in both J1 and J2 constituency , which means that it is emerging as a gainer in terms of political consolidation, a fact which reflect a positive trend as for 2014 Assembly polls. The broader details of results are that for J-1 constituency Congress candidate Shyam Lal defeated his nearest rival Gurmeet Singh of PDP by a margin of 7034 votes. Of the 14874 votes polled, Shyam Lal secured 9123 votes while as Gurmeet secured 2089 votes. For the J-2 seat, Dr. Shahnaz Ganai of National Conference defeated her nearest rival Ved Prakash Gupta of PDP by a margin of 6917 votes. Of the 14812 votes polled for the constituency, Dr. Shahnaz secured 9070 votes whileas Gupta secured 2153 votes. However, a macro anatomy of results in terms of votes secured in various areas and belts of the two constituencies shows Panthers Party candidates have secured a good number of votes on their own. For instance in J1 constituency , in Udhampur and adjacent block, Panthers Party has secured 926 votes, second highest to Congress candidate Sham Lal Bhagat, in Hiranagar, Samba, Bhalwal, Akhnoor , Khour belt too Panthers Party has secured nearly 1185 votes, second highest after Congress candidate . Similarly in J2 constituency, even as joint candidate of coalition Dr Shanaz Ganai has managed good number of votes with support of both Congress and her own party NC , it is the Panthers Party which has again made inroads by securing votes at second number. For instance in Udhampur belt of J2 constituency, PP has secured 1059 votes on its own, at second place in terms of votes . Likewise in the belt covering Aknoor, Khour, Basholi , Satwari , it is the Panthers Party which has registered far beter position by securing 1296 votes on its own.
