Jammu, Dec 6: Amidst vehement protests by student organizations alleging nepotism in appointments, Jammu University conducted yet another 'staged' interview today to select DL Choudhary, the close buddy of the Vice Chancellor MP Singh Ishar as the administrator of the Gen. Zorawar Singh auditorium, five years since he assumed the same office.
Even though he has been the administrator of the auditorium for five years, Choudhary's appointment was purely temporary. Neither former Vice Chancellors Amitabh Matto who appointed him to the post primarily to clip wings of another aspirant, nor his successor Prof. Varun Sahni regularised his appointment owing to Choudhary's dubious record. He has several serious allegations to his discredit that include misbehaving with a senior professor in the department of adult and continuing education, ill treatment with a lady employee of the Renuka cafeteria that culminated into filing of FIR against him, indecent behaviour during a camp he organised in Shimla, for which the Deputy Commissioner wrote to the then Vice Chancellor, arbitrarily allocating the auditorium and its adjoining area for the marriage of a Minister's daughter among others.
Relegated and marginalized due to his record, DL Choudhary suddenly broke into the core group of university administration after Prof. MP Singh Ishar assumed charge as the Vice Chancellor due to their old camaraderie. Choudhary, however, was one of the aspirants for the post of VC JU alongside Prof Ishar and had submitted his resume to the select committee even though he was not even a professor. Choudhary's name appeared in almost all important committees constituted in the University and he went on throwing his weight in the university claiming to be VC's class mate and buddy for long. Insiders divulge that he is often seen in close door meetings with the VC.
Finally, VC got the interview stage managed to get his buddy firmly in Chair he already occupied. The interview was held on Thursday and if sources are to be believed, Choudhary has been benefitted by his buddy's largesse. |
