| Chief Justice (Judicature) launches 'Settlement of TP Claims' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Dec 6 : Chief Justice J&K High Court of Judicature today formally launched "Common Mechanism for Compromised Settlement of TP Claims" devised by four PSU Non-Life Insurance Companies for the speedy settlement of third party motor claims. M M Kumar, Chief Justice J&K High Court of Judicature formally launched "Common Mechanism for Compromised Settlement of TP Claims (CMCSTPC) " devised by four PSU Non-Life Insurance Companies for the speedy settlement of third party motor claims. In his inaugural address Chief Justice M M Kumar lauded the endeavour of PSU Insurance Companies and advised them to concentrate in formulating a Scheme for providing immediate medical aid to the victims of the motor accidents and for providing training and education to the drivers about the driving norms. Chief Justice further exhorted the PSU Insurance Companies not to leave any stone unturned in their steeple chase to bring efficiency in ameliorating the pain and sufferings of the victims of motor accidents. During the proceedings of occasion special invitee Chief Justice handed over the cheques to the victims of the motor accidents. Jang Bhadur Singh Jamwal Principal District & Sessions Judge, Jammu, was presented a memento by A K Das Deputy General Manager, Oriental Insurance Co Ltd. for his meritorious services rendered in mitigating the sufferings of the victims of motor accidents. Apart from this D S Chauhan, Advocate was also given memento for extending helping hand to Insurance Companies in organizing Lok Adalat and taking up the cause of the victims of motor accidents for assessing just compensation. "Atul Jerath, Deputy General Manager, Oriental Insurance Company presided over the function, who while introducing the Scheme stated that a committee comprising a retired District Judge, a Retired Sr. Medical Officer (Orthopedics) and a Senior Officer from a Public Sector Insurance Company would decide the quantum of compensation to be paid to the victims of the motor accidents, official spokesperson said. The statement said that cases agreed for settlement would be placed before Lok Adalat constituted for the purpose and recorded as settled, after which the compensation amount shall be released within 30 days. It was informed a Lok Adalat was organized by Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Jammu Dec 3-4 wherein 27 cases were settled for an amount of Rs. 62.57 Lakh. In the end Ashok Kumar, Senior Divisional Manager, Oriental Insurance Company Limited, read the vote of thanks. |
