| A passing reference of Kamaal's India bashing! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 8: The National Conference working committee that met to day with Dr Farooq Abdullah in chair made just a passing reference of its additional general secretary, Dr Mustafa Kamaal's controversial remarks. No action was taken and a relieved Kamaal feels free to repeat his `misadventures'. Kamaal while addressing a function at Kishtwar last month said India was an enemy country as it did not accept Pakistan's no war pact. He also passed remarks against the army. The statement evoked severe reaction across the country with leaders Congress and BJP demanding penal action against his `seditious' remarks. Kamaal was shaken by the response his controversial remark evoked and issued an explanation saying he had great regard for the country. "Patriotism is in my DNA", he said. However, the explanation as not accepted not even by former Chief Minister and Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad who sought stern action against him. The local BJP unit (Kishtwar) even approached the concerned police station to register an FIR against the NC leader. However, the police failed to take cognizance. Kamaal evoked some support from advisor to chief minister Devender Singh Rana who tried to clarify his statement but it proved an exercise in futility as Kamaal issued a similar statement soon after. Kamaal's India bashing is being perceived as a political stunt to garner support in Kashmir valley. However, political experts believe such gimmicks can do no good to NC in the changing Kashmir scenario. |
