| NC's call from WC meet: 2014 polls in alliance with Cong | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 8: In what can be seen as ruling National Conference preparing ground for contesting 2014 Assembly elections in alliance with Congress , the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today formally said it in the Working Committee meeting held here today. In capacity of the Working President of the Party, Omar moved this proposal which was endorsed by the members of the WC which is the highest decision making body of the organization. Omar also desired that preparations in this direction begin in right earnest and asked the Patron of the party Dr Farooq to start the process of making nominations for the Assembly polls. Convened after a gap of over one year the Working Committee assumes meeting assumes significance in the wake of what NC is viewing as 'grand success' of the coalition ,the victory over four seats of Legislative Council polls held on December 3. Sources said it was in context of the success of 'mutual alliance with ally Congress that Omar Abdullah proposed it as formal move , which though is being seen as wish of NC High command. Sources said the Chief Minister also recommended that preparations for 2014 must start from today and authorized President Dr. Farooq Abdullah for selecting names for the prospective candidates. Sources said the Working Committee members while endorsing this move announced formation of an 8 members Sub Working Committee which would meet under the chairmanship of Dr Abdullah every month. The Working Committee meeting began at 10.30 AM and continued for hours before concluding at 3PM during which a marathon discussion was held on a host of political issues related with the party functioning. Sources said it was in the backdrop of victory achieved in LC by both the parties, the NC High Command chose to make a call and need for going it together with Congress , contending and claiming the coalition has got strengthened by poll outcome. The message anc loud call to Congress was that both the allies should now work together in order to make each other stronger and ties get much stronger. The focus and thrust however remained on consolidation and strengthening of the party at all levels and on all levels , a must exercise which the High Command asserted was necessary before facing 2014 polls. Sources said during the meeting considerable time was given to what is being seen as introspective session on performance of the party in just concluded LC polls. While the leadership patted itself for victory on two seats, it also pointed at dismal and poor results at some places where most of members felt party should have fared well. It was in the light of certain poor figures in terms of votes bagged that the High Command laid thrust on paying attention in run up to 2014 polls. Sources said Dr Abdullah who was scheduled to fly to Srinagar , attended the meeting for entire over four hour marathon session during which the leadership also took note of certain irritants which they said have been affecting ties between Congress and NC and also affecting future prospects of alliance. Sources said Dr Abdullah in an indirect reference to the statements made by his brother and senior leader Dr Mustafa Kamal gave directions that no leader should make 'unnecessary statements' which become a cause of trouble for NC as far ties with Congress are concerned. Sources said made it clear if at all statements were to be made , the leaders must use words with utmost caution. |
