early times report JAMMU, Dec 15: Host Jammu and Kashmir clinched both boys and girls championship trophies in the 58th National School Games in U-19 Tennis Ball Cricket, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI), here today. In boys' final, played at University of Jammu ground, J&K registered a 14 runs win over Madhya Pradesh (MP). Earlier, batting first, J&K made 85 runs for the loss of seven wickets in given 12 overs game, which, in reply, MP could not chase and bowled out for 71 runs in 11.3 overs. Wahid, Amir and Gulbaksh were main contributors to the score with 28, 20 and 18 runs in their respective accounts. From MP, Jairaj and Ajay were most successful bowlers, who bagged three and two wickets respectively. Batting second, MP bowled out for 71 runs in 11.3 overs with Ayush (19) and Ajay (12) being top scorers. From J&K, Umar Mubasir took three wickets, followed by Sikander, who bagged two. For his highest runs, Wahid was declared man of the mach. The man of the series trophy went to Hinan. The boys' team was coached by former Ranji cricketer and Physical Education Teacher, Jagtar Singh. The girls' trophy was also bagged by J&K after they beat Gujarat by seven wickets. Batting first, Gujarat set a target of 32 runs for the loss of seven wickets in given 10 overs, which, in reply, J&K chased in just 3.1 overs losing one wicket. Meenaz was declared woman of the match for her all round performance. She was also declared best player of the tournament. Girls' team was trained by Sandeepan Sharma as coach. Third place in boys section went to Jharkhand, who beat Goa by four runs in hardliner. In girls' category, Chattisgarh remained third. In the valedictory function, Minister for Sports, R S Chib was the chief guest, while Secretary General of School Games Federation of India, R K Mishra was guest of honor. Minister complimented the winners and runner-up teams as also other participants. He asked the Director, DYSS for special incentives to the winning teams of the state for their encouragement. In all, 25 teams, comprised of 290 players and 40 other supporting staff participated in this five-day event. Among others present were Director DYSS Jaipal Singh, Director Sports and Physical Education, JU, Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau, Padam Shree S P Verma, Joint Director, DYSS, Madan Lal, Deputy Director and Vice President of SGFI, Ashok Kumar.
