| Assembly wall collapse; accident or design? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 15: The collapse of wall of Assembly complex in Jammu is still a mystery for Government. Was it an accident or pre-planned to dig the surface deep for new Assembly complex till the existing wall collapses. Going by the facts on the ground it is being observed that the wall collapse would have been averted but no attention was given to take precautions before going deep digging. Sources said that the construction agency JKPCC engineers were well aware of the fact that the existing Assembly complex is not so strong that it could stand against all odds while digging deep for the new complex. During the digging the foundation of existing building was visible and no support was given to the case and was allowed the building wall to collapse. The JKPCC and Government officials will have to answer many questions regarding collapse of the wall. People believe that it was pre-planned to allow building to collapse so that the budget session in February is not held in the complex but somewhere else in Jammu or most probably in summer capital Srinagar. The summer capital Srinagar remains out of focus as the Darbar remains in Jammu and most political activity happens here only. "Valley based politicians always want to take the darbar completely to Srinagar so that they don't visit Jammu and give whole benefit to people of Kashmir valley," said a senior leader of an opposition party. The leader said that there is the possibility that budget session may be held in Srinagar in case the repair work in the Assembly complex is not done within the stipulated time. "Still we have more than one and half month to go for budget session and we hope Government does enough to hold the session on time and in Jammu only, but I doubt it will happen as people sitting at the helm of affairs may not make it possible due to their inclination towards Valley," the leader said. "If session is held in Srinagar, it will set a trend for future and Kashmiri politicians could cash this opportunity and take darbar forever to Kashmir," he added. People suspect that even if the session is not held in Srinagar and make shift arrangements are made in Jammu, there is possibility that the session will be shortened. "This will allow the Government not to come under scrutiny from opposition parties for word done during the year and pass budget with ease," another opposition leader said. Both the leaders made it clear that they will not allow this to happen and will protest against it. |
