| Public barred, public places reserved for NC leaders | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 15: Anguish, agony and discontent among the general public against the corrupt politicians is multiplying due to extension of special favour to them at the cost of inconvenience to public whom they claim to (mis) represent. These undue favours are extended to them by depriving general public of their equality and legitimate rights . A traffic cop slashed the tyres of a car parked near the National Conference party headquarters today. Mohammad Irfan a resident of Gujjar Nagar parked his car outside the office of National Conference and was incensed when police officers fined him for wrong parking and made him remove to his car from that area. Irfan was astounded by the sign board that read 'No Parking', with a suffix "Except NC leaders". The discriminatory board is reminiscent of imperial times that had separate rules for the rulers and the ruled. It means the JMC has granted special permission to the leaders belonging to the ruling party to park their vehicles in a zone which is a no Parking zone for the general public. The episode caps a series of scandals at the Jammu Municipal Corporation which has caused public faith in corporation and politicians to plummet, as the local citizens are fined for parking and those who are associated with National Conference are allowed to park their vehicles. However, beyond the headquarters of the ruling party, Residency road is choked with hundreds of cars, school buses and auto-rickshaws virtually blocking the passage of people. "Traffic Police have miserably failed to streamline the flow of traffic," said a local resident Ramesh Kumar. "They are positioned there only to facilitate smooth movement of VIPs and have no concern regarding streamlining the flow of traffic," he added. |
