Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 15: The suspended traffic on the busiest Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) due to heavy snowfall would resume tomorrow. "Depending upon the weather conditions, one way traffic will be resumed from Jammu to Srinagar tomorrow afternoon," Muneer Khan, IG Traffic, told reporters here. Mr Khan said the stranded light motor vehicles and passenger taxis would be allowed to proceed towards the valley. "If there will be no fresh snowfall, similar traffic will be thrown open from Srinagar to Jammu on December 17," the official said. He, however, said vehicles were allowed to head towards Kashmir from Qazikund area to clear the road and number of stranded vehicles. "Many stranded vehicles had been allowed to move towards Srinagar this afternoon, while they were not allowed to move on the highway either from Jammu or Srinagar," he added. Earlier, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained closed today for the second consecutive day due to snow and landslides. No vehicle was allowed to ply on the highway from both sides, the traffic official said. Heavy snow in Qazigund-Bannihal sector of the over 300-km long highway had stopped traffic since Friday morning. "Before undertaking the journey passengers must contact the traffic control rooms in Srinagar and Jammu," official added. |
