Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 16: Six Indian Army soldiers were killed and one missing in an avalanche that struck the Siachen Glacier this morning. According to the reports received the incident occurred in Sub-sector Hanief of the Glacier when troops were on their routine move between posts at 19,000 feet. However, immediately after the incident happened a major rescue operation has been started in the area to trace the missing soldiers. The Siachen Glacier in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas is the world's highest and coldest battlefield, with both Indian and Pakistani soldiers camped there. In the past there have been repeated attempts to demilitarise the Glacier because of the huge amount spend on the soldiers to maintain health at this highest battle field. The Soldiers of both countries got killed on this icy cold battlefield repeatedly over the years, In April current year an avalanche killed 139 people at a Pakistan Army camp. Meanwhile, authorities in Kashmir issued avalanche warning for the higher reaches of the Kashmir valley.People have been advised to keep utmost precaution while roaming outside their houses. Aamir Ali, head of Disaster Management in the Valley, said, "Medium danger avalanche warning is issued for people living in Keran, Tangdhar, Machil, Chowkibal, Gurez, Bannihal, Uri and Gulmarg areas. He further added that People are advised to take precaution and not to venture about in avalanche-prone areas.
