Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 16: Congress happens to be the party of the freedom movement. It also happens to be the largest political party in India. But is it really democratic? Although Congress leaders and workers boast of owing allegiance to the most democratic party of the country but its history narrates a different story. Since independence, the leadership of the party has remained in the Nehru family. After Nehru, it was Indira Gandhi and then Rajiv Gandhi. After, Rajiv's tragic death in 1991, Madam Sonia Gandhi took over the reins of the party and now Rahul Gandhi is being groomed for the future. National Conference has been accused of taking policy decisions in the `kitchen cabinet'. It is all in the family. Similarly, vital decisions for Congress are taken in 10 Janpath. The senior Congress leaders make no bones about this ‘stark reality’. From veterans like Abdul Ghani Vakil to new entrants in the party, all speak one language. "The decision shall be taken by the party high command", they convey. Madam Sonia Gandhi's word is final. This is in total contrast to the statements given by the separatist organizations in the Valley when asked to comment on major political developments across the globe. "We will consult our Shoura (Executive Council)", they say. The Congress leaders never refer to the Congress Working Committee. They always prefer the Party High Command. And who comprises the high command in Congress party? It is obviously Sonia Ji and Rahul Ji. The mother, son duo have been taking the party for a ride. Not only the Congress Party, the country as well is run by the Congress High Command. The Prime Minister, Manmohan Siongh also refers to Sonia Ji and Rahul Ji.
