| Collection of booty stopped 'temporarily', will re-surface after a short-break…? | | Attachment of 6 Traffic Cops | | ET Report Jammu, Dec 17: "Are just six traffic Cops corrupt?" is a million dollar question of general public, which needs a simple answer from Traffic police brass. "About a week ago, a team of senior police officers in Traffic wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted surprise checking on Jammu-Pathankote and Jammu-Srinagar National Highways and found six Traffic police cops including a DySP rank officer and three Inspector rank officers collecting money from commercial vehicles including inter-state private buses and goods carriers during late night hours," highly placed sources in Traffic police wing revealed to Early Times. "The senior officers in the checking team party also prepared a written report and forwarded to Police Headquarters for initiating disciplinary action against all six officers trapped while taking alleged bribe," sources further added. But still a deep in-house study is required by the senior officers who have just paid one surprise visit on some of the locations on both the said national highway roads and recommended disciplinary action against only six police personnel. "Some police officers in senior hierarchy had suggested first to have a complete and proper survey of all the traffic points of both Jammu as well as Kashmir regions and then initiate simultaneous checking in both the parts of State and all those who would be caught red-handed must not be spared and be shunted out of Traffic wing so that new and committed officers be put on the job to ensure proper regulation of vehicular traffic movement on each and every road of the State," sources further shared and added that "instead of conducting an extensive survey, the surprise checking was made in haste and only six allegedly corrupt Traffic Cops got trapped." "The outcome of such a hurried step of senior police officers is that the remaining corrupt cops managed to save themselves and have stopped seeking 'entry' (money) from the commercial vehicles for the time-being. Even those corrupt Traffic Police personnel including both gazetted and non-gazetted officers deployed other than National Highway points in Kashmir as well as Jammu Provinces too have 'suspended' collecting money fearing a surprise check ion their respective jurisdictions," reliable sources further disclosed. "You can change the prevailing system which is virtually drenched in corrupt practice just by one or two surprise visits suspended couple of Cops. The top brass will have to come out with a strict and specific policy if it has to tame the corrupt personnel. The wing needs complete overhauling and collective team effort right from top to bottom if police brass really wants to give a face-lift to Traffic wing, which seems to be lying in shabby shape," expressed a police officer while speaking to Early Times on the condition of anonymity. |
