| Assembly wall collapse: Cabinet acts finally, JKPCC team off the 'scene' | | Is NC Minister's son responsible for negligence on site….? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 17: Nearly a week after the collapse of Assembly Secretariat building portions due to excessive digging and excavation works in the adjacent construction site for new complex, the Government finally acted in the matter by deciding that entire team of JKPCC engineers be 'removed' from the scene for now till the enquiry report is finalized. No responsibility nor any action against anyone has been fixed as yet, even as the Committee set up by the government hours after mishap submitted its report on Saturday last. However, the axe may not fall on the real culprit responsible for criminal negligence on the site, sources said, adding, as he happened to be the son of a NC Minister. Sources said the matter came up for discussion as one of urgency and paramount importance during the Cabinet meeting with all Ministers including the Chief Minister expressing concern for this incident that caused colossal damage to the heritage structure. After expressing their opinion, the Cabinet, sources said suggested that entire hierarchy of JKPCC engineers who were deputed for the prestigious project not be allowed to continue on this job till it becomes clear who was responsible for the major lapse and criminal negligence. While the move has come as a jolt for the JKPCC, the bigger story remains that real culprit will escape with ease from probe findings and the axe may ultimately fall on the engineers alone. Sources said JKPCC which is the main agency responsible for construction of new Assembly project, has further entrusted the job to contractors, one of whom happens to be son a senior NC Minister. Sources said that the senior engineers on the job had advised this contractor to desist from excessive digging and excavation as was bound to cause erosion and affect the close by old building of Assembly. But he did not pay heed even to the 'expert' advice from a higher level, sources said adding that he went on with heavy digging work, which according to some technical experts remains fruitful in terms of monetary gains for the contractors on such constructions. Sources said the JKPCC engineers could not stop him from going about with digging spree, fearing wrath from the 'politician father'. The latter is also learnt to have been visiting the construction site very often, directing the engineers, indirectly, not to poke unnecessarily.
