| Clear sky greets Chilla-Kallan | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Dec 21: The Chilla Kalan was greeted with a clear sky and bright sun shine today. The severest period of winter commences on December 21 and is popularly called Chilla Kalan and lasts for forty days. With the MET office predicting some dry days, the people can enjoy sunshine for the time being. However, the MET office warned of severe dip in night temperatures if sky remains clear during the day. At hilly areas it is expected to dip down to -8 degrees Celsius. According to the reports Leh, in Ladakh recorded the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of minus 17.2 degrees Celsius followed by Kargil town at minus 13.8 degrees Celsius. The temperature is recorded as a drop of over 5.0 degrees compared to the same period of last year at both places. Meanwhile reports of electricity curtailment and shortage of cooking gas were reported from various far-flung areas from north and south Kashmir. |
