Two days ago the Member Parliament Ladakh Haji Ghulam Hassan Khan stated that the concerned Ministry had requested the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to inaugurate Civil Air Service from Kargil on 21st December, 2012. Earlier, in the month of November, a private Airline ' Mantra Airlines' had announced to start service to border district of Kargil in Ladakh region, which remains cut off during winter months due to closure of Srinagar-Leh national highway. The Company also held trial landings in Kargil two times and the Civil Aviation has already made request for arrangements at Kargil Airport e.g X-Ray Machine etc. Meanwhile, the AN 32 Courier Service was suspended for some days due to unknown reason and for the convenience of the general public the Government has made arrangements for IL 76 Service from Leh to Jammu. It's to mention here that the AN32 didn't ply for a single time since its inception for this year from Kargil. Hundreds of passengers stranded for the past two weeks at Kargil protested against Government for failing to airlift them to Jammu and Srinagar. Hundreds of passengers were stranded in Kargil due to the cancellation of AN32 Courier Service. People of Kargil are the worst sufferers. They have been given to believe that the State Government and the Air have been giving step motherly treatment to them. Passengers including elderly people and children were waiting at Kargil, Srinagar, Jammu and Leh airports but only to return disappointed. They were told that the flight had been cancelled. Asgar Ali Abasi in his Facebook post has described the miserable plight of the stranded passengers. "Nearly 300 passengers have arrived here at Leh from Kargil with a hope of getting airlifted to Srinagar. He has accused the liaison officer of allowing a selected group of passengers (185) to board the Army plane that landed at the airport around 3 p.m. The rest of the passengers were told to arrive at the airport at 7 a.m. The traumatized passengers do not know where to go and where to stay for the night. |
