| Anonymous complaints culture mars KU's academic atmosphere | | | ET Report SRINAGAR, Dec 21: While rampant corruption, favouritism and nepotism which was developed in the Kashmir University in former Vice Chancellor Prof Riyaz Punjabi's tenure has taken deep roots, to divert attention from real issues, vested interests in the varsity are sending hundreds of anonymous complaints to the office of Governor and Chief Minister. Sources told Early Times that in the last few years the trend of sending anonymous complaints picked up in the university. "Most of the people who are themselves involved in corruption and other wrongdoings send anonymous complaints against each other to divert the attention of the authorities from the real issues," they said . "Most of the people who send anonymous complaints are those officials who managed to appoint their relatives in the KU during the tenure of former Vice Chancellor Prof Riyaz Punjabi. Instead of looking into anonymous complaints, the Governor (who is also Chancellor of the KU) should order a probe by a high level committee to investigate how relatives of KU officials were appointed and how sympathisers of separatists were appointed by Prof Punjabi," they demanded. "The academic atmosphere in the Varsity is suffering due to this menace as real issues are brushed under carpet. The faculty members instead of concentrating on academics are busy in despatching anonymous complaints against each other. Same is the case in administration," he revealed. The official said that faculty members and officers in administration who have appointed their sons, daughters, brother and other relatives through back door in Prof Punjabi's tenure are at forefront in filing these fake anonymous complaints. KU Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad confirmed that his office receives lot of anonymous complaints for comments forwarded from Governor and CM offices. "It is wastage of time as most of these are fake. If anybody has a genuine complaint he/she should come forward and the same would be looked into," Prof Talat told Early Times. Asked whether any action would be taken against those people who file fake complaints, the VC said, "How can I take action against such people as these complaints are anonymous. But I request media to expose these elements as they are vitiating the atmosphere of the Varsity." |
