| DPS Parents open Facebook Account to share concern, seek comments | | SMART CLASSES smart way to mint money…….? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 21: The parents of reputed DPS school in Jammu today formed an Association to remain on Face book for a concern they want to share and get interactive to know what they feel about certain things the School management is allegedly imposing upon them. Their latest worry that prompted them to come under one banner on the Face book is the Smart Classes which this School has started for students of all the standards. With no progress in the pace of classes every month and seeing no achievable results on the ground from the SMART CLASSES for which they are being made to extra bucks, they allege it has become a smart fashion and way to make smart money for the School, the pinch of which is borne by parents alone. The concept of SMART CLASSES in the schools started lately in the field of education is gradually gaining popularity in Jammu too, but only to be introduced in a halfhearted manner, leaving schools halfway from that mark of perfection elsewhere outside. While there are no clear nor any uniform guidelines whether schools would charge extra bucks for the projects, DPS school started this project with a fee of Rs 200 per student per month from all the sections of the school, which approximately figure around 100 in the entire school. Each section having an average of 35-40 students, the money charged cumulatively makes a huge amount for the school authorities, no matter it amounts to extra burden on the already burdened parents. Pertinently, the parents are already faced with heavy expenditures on one or the other front, besides a handsome revision in the school fee structure annually. And the extra fee of Rs 200 per month has come as additional as well as unnecessary expenditure for most of the parents, more so in the wake of the fact no regular classes are being held in the school under this novel concept. "The school has yet to acquire requisite infrastructure to run these classes as a result of which they are not able to cover all the students nor is there any regularity in the classes…….they are charging money from the parents for a concept which is yet to pick up for whatever constraints the school is facing", said a parent wishing not be named. This has obviously become an unnecessary burden for the parents particularly those who cannot afford beyond normal fees and other necessary charges, he said. While the school authorities argue with parents and contend that under SMART CLASSES each student is made to take 5-6 classes per month, the reality both parents and students say is something else. "Our wards say that they have not taken more than two or three classes under this project so far …..some have not even gone beyond once or twice a month….", said another parent who feels it is simply a smart way to make smart money in the school. The parents feeling aggrieved on this front today decided to share the concern by sharing comments on the facebook so that a pressure group and opinion could against such facilities which are not result oriented the way this school is conducting the project. |
