early times report JAMMU, Dec 21: Beating defending champion, Post Graduate (PG) Departments, Mahant Bachiter Singh (MBS) College of Engineering and Technology today emerged as new men's champion in the inter-college table tennis competition which was organised by GGM Science College under the aegis of Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here today. It was a straight games (3-0) win for MBS College against the title holders, PG Departments. In the first singles, Jayesh Singh beat Abhinav Sharma 3-1 (11-03, 04-11, 11-06, 11-06) while Gurvinder Singh outplayed Sandeep Khadotra 3-0 (11-03, 12-10, 16-14). In the third game, Tanveer Singh defeated Taresh Baru in straight sets of 11-05, 11-06, 11-09. Meanwhile, in women's section, last year's runners-up, Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar clinched the title after they beat the opponent from Government SPMR College of Commerce 3-1. While Nitani Bakshi beat Parvi Raina in equal straight sets 11-05, 11-05, Tanvi Jamwal lost to Arya Parimoo 1-2 (07-11, 11-09, 07-11). In third singles, Neha Sharma defeted Supriya Tickoo 11-07, 11-09. Later, in reverse singles, Nitani Bakshi outplayed Arya Parimoo in identical straight sets of 11-07, 11-07. Today's finals were officiated by the penal of technical individuals including Romesh Magotra, Ravish Vaid, Tushar Khajuria and Amit Sharma. In the finals, Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest, who gave away winners trophies to MBS College and GCW Gandhi Nagar. Among others present were Principal of hosts, GGM Science College, Prof. Satinder Singh, Physical Director, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Prof. Karan Singh, Prof. Dinesh Jasrotia, Prof. Sami, HS Gill and Sumnesh Sharma as also Malik Aijaz Iqbal and Manjit Singh. |
