Srinagar, Dec 28: Jammu and Kashmir Congress Committee Chief, Prof Saifuddin Soz today called upon the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the latters 7 Race Course Road to discuss various matters of public interest. "I brought to the notice of the Prime Minister that people of the J&K State had fully appreciated the imperative to empowering Panchyati Raj Institution in the state, so that the democratization of the entire space at the grass roots was ensured on expected lines, besides making developmental process fully participative", Soz said in a statement issued here today. "In this connection, I sought Prime Minister's support to the J&K State's proposal for grant of Rs. 100 Crores, approximately, for providing honorarium and insurance cover to Sarpanchs and Panchs in J&K State", he added. "Among other things I proposed to Prime Minister that it was an opportune time for a re-look at the economic policy in J&K through a direct outline on the perspective from the Prime Minister, keeping in view the structural reform in the J&K State, with a special focus on infrastructural development and employment generation in the Private Sector". "Several other proposals of socio economic viability in the state came under discussion. These proposals included suggestion that passenger and commercial traffic on Srinagar-Rawalpindi Road and Poonch-Rawalakote Road must obtain speed commensurate with needs of the people and that it was also possible to open other routes across the border. Prime Minister's response to these suggestion was heart-warming", the statement read.
