| Indian State Disowns Indian Nation | | No alternative to separate homeland in Kashmir, says PK | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Neha Jammu, Dec 28: Panun Kashmir (PK), an organization of internally-displaced Kashmiri Pandits today launched a scathing attack on the Indian State and without mincing words charged it with disowning the Indian Nation. In fact, the PK held national convention in Jammu, which was attended by hundreds of PK activists, including men, women and children. They very carefully listened to the speakers, who reflected on the nature of the ongoing secessionist movement in Kashmir, nature of the Indian State and declared in unequivocal language that there is no alternative to separate homeland for the persecuted and hounded out community within the Kashmir valley. They reiterated again and again that the Kashmiri Pandits will not accept any instrument other than Union Territory, which must also be invested with Union Territory status. In other words, they reposed unflinching faith in the Indian nation and Indian Constitution. Those who addressed the convention included Dr Shashi Shekhar Toshkhani, Sushil Pandit, PK chairman Dr Ajay Chrungoo, Prof ML Koul, ON Trisal, Kuldip Raina and young researcher Mahesh Koul. The national convention adopted seven resolutions on the issues of state and national import as well as on the problems facing the internally-displaced Kashmiri Pandits . One of the resolutions dealt with the nature of secessionist movement and Indian State. Another was on the need to intensify struggle for achieving separate homeland in the Valley. The resolution on the nature of secessionist movement and Indian State, among other things, said: "It is baffling when opinion in the international arena is veering round to recognizing the serious consequences of the state-sponsored Islamist terrorism in the region of Jammu & Kashmir in particular and there is a larger appreciation of India's concerns in preserving its sovereignty and unity, that the Government's policies continue to accord Pakistan and the separatist groups a role in Kashmir…With a deep and unflinching commitment to the integrity and sovereignty of India, the national convention resolves (1) that dialogue with forces preaching violence, separatism and fundamentalism should be stopped forthwith and (2) a new process aiming at creating peace that strengthens the national sovereignty and secular nation nation-building should be evolved". As for the resolution on homeland, it, inter-alia, said: "…As the radical forces are making deep inroads into the social milieu, organs of the society and administration, a dangerous ideological monolith seems to be pervading all spheres in the Valley. These developments when seen in the light of the social and demographic squeeze of the Kashmiri Hindus even before 1990, the religious cleansing and the perpetuation of the state of homelessness is enough a rationale to visualize the survival of Kashmiri Hindus in the Valley in the framework which is factual. Return of secularism and pluralism in the Valley cannot be done through symbolic or cosmetic gestures or by hostaging destitute Kashmiri Hindus to a communal order. The demand of PK for the creation of a Union Territory in north and east of river Jhelum for Kashmiri Hindus stands vindicated as never before. We reiterate our demand of creation of a Union Territory in Kashmir in north and east of river Jhelum where Kashmiri Hindus can be settled permanently". Both the resolutions were self-explanatory and, hence, no need to point out what they suggested. Suffice it to say that both the resolutions constituted a sad reflection on the Indian State. The PK leadership was quite right when it bemoaned saying that the "Indian State has disowned the Indian nation" and that "the Indian State is fighting against itself by pampering and promoting separatists and by marginalizing those who constitute the nation's backbone". |
