Congress Foundation Day A 'dull, drab ritual' at PCC HQs: Ministers, legislators stay away

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: The ministers of Congress in J&K and sitting MLAs of the party are either too busy in their respective 'assignments' or have perhaps better things to do than to pay even ritualistic attention towards a day with which their political identities are associated. This was amply reflected today at Party office function which saw only few functionaries of PCC from middle rung hierarchy besides a couple of district presidents and MLCs present. None of them today deemed it necessary to be a part of the function organized at Congress headquarters to celebrate the Foundation Day of the party. Or may be it was the chill in the winter and first downpour of winter which they preferred to enjoy from their cozy homes , that kept them away from the 'scene'.
There is no exaggeration nor any sarcastic comment about the fact as the official press note and picture circulated by JKPCC has shown it all that senior leaders and even leadership of the PCC chose to stay away from the function at winter capital where it should have been celebrated in a gala manner. Those in attendance were some lesser known names of functionaries of either DCC and a couple of district presidents besides one or two woman functionaries of Mahila Congress. On the forefront , however, it was the former minister Mula Ram, two legislators Ravinder Sharma and Indu Pawar besides Dharam Pal Sharma who was stated to have presided over the function.
That party is losing sheen and enthusiasm at the organizational level as also at the level of its 'caravan' of ministers and MLAs became evident today when none of them turned up to remain present even for the sake of formality at Shahidi Chowk Party headquarters. This in spite of the fact that entire government including the team of ministers of Congress is stationed here , Darbar having since shifted to winter capital. Whatever, the pressing engagements of personal reasons they might have had, skipping of the function almost by all legislators and ministers only tantamount to undeclared boycott of a day to which the high command gave utmost priority .
The scene of celebrations at the high command level was in total contrast to here in J&K winter capital which looked completely a low key affair besides being ritualistic one with only few rhetoric speeches about history and role of Congress. While the senior leaders and ministers chose to skip or stay away giving no importance to the function, it was a gala and huge show at New Delhi in which not only party president Sonia Gandhi remained present but was also graced by the Prime Minister and a good number of party ministers besides scores of senior leaders of the party. The lack of interest in the organizational and party affairs by the stalwarts in the state is ironically happening at a time when the leadership has started parroting the call of consolidating and strengthening the party at all levels , a much needed step in view of elections ahead.
