Pulwama encounter: Two LeT ultras eliminated, Army officer among other 12 injured

srinagar, Dec 28: Two Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were killed while nine civilians and three security personnels including an Army officer were injured in a fierce encounter that took place between militants and security forces in Chandgam-Babagam area of district Pulwama here today. Three among nine civilians were critically injured and curfew was imposed in main town Pulwama after stone pelting and protests broke out in the area.
According to D.I.G South Kashmir Vijay Kumar, two militants have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Teli alias Fahadullah Kashmiri resident of Petipora Pulwama and Mohammad Aamir Bhat '18' son of Mohd Abdullah Bhat, of Handew Shopian.
He said that these two militants were already identified in the area and a search operation was launched however, on seeing troops approaching to them the ultras opened fire upon them which was equally retaliated by the security forces ensuing a fierce encounter in which the duo got eliminated.
According to the Police statements encounter began early this morning following information about the presence of two militants in the area. Police alongwith 55 RR and 182Bn CRPF launched a search operation in village Chandgam, Asthan Mohalla after which militants opened fire on security forces, triggering a gun battle in which both militants got killed.
During the fierce gun battle three security personnel including a Major, a Captain and a policeman identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad of Chadoora also received injuries and a house owned by one Bashir Ahmad Kar son of Ghulam Mohd kar got damaged. Meanwhile, report from District Hospital Pulwama, added that nine civilians namely Showkat Ahmad Mir of Navangari, Ashaq Hussain of Navnagri, Gowhar Hussain of Navnagri, Mohd Younis of Armullah, Imran Ahmad of Batnoor, Parvaiz Sajad of Kulgam, Naseer ahmad of Bandzoo, Suhail Ahmad of Chandgam and Mohd Yaseen of Paraypora, received minor injuries whereas three civilians identified namely as Mohd Yaseen, Naseer Ahmad and Suhail Ahmad got critically injured who were later shifted to SMHS Srinagar for special treatment. Normalcy was disturbed in main town Pulwama after an injured Security personnel was being evacuated to Hospital for treatment and a mob attacked the ambulance at Pulwama, by pelting stones and in retaliatory action civilians got injured, later curfew was imposed in the area for precautionary measures.
