| Legal Metrology books 'Laopala' crockery manufacturer for smudging MRP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 28: The department of Legal Metrology ,Jammu today fined a sum of Rs 28000 to M/s Laopala Solitaire Kolkata, a renowned manufacturer of crockery items for violations of different provisions of PCR rules under Weights and Measures Act. According to Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement, Manoj Prabhakar, on inspection of M/s Best Price, it was found that packages of crockery items are affixed new MRP stickers on the old declarations along with other discrepancies thereby making consumers suspicious of the original price. The said deceptive packages were seized by Inspector Jammu Upper and notice was issued to the management making all the directors responsible for the omission. The company while filing the statements of facts admitted the smudging of MRP on old packages but defended that MRP has been lowered. 'Since provisions of law provides lowering of rates but with proper procedure, which was not followed by the said company and according to rules if any company wants to sell its product at lower rate, the same is permissible by putting company sticker adjacent to old MRP, so that consumer can co relate the actual benefit & not by smudging old declaration making consumer suspicious, official spokesperson said.The Official from Legal Metrology Department directed the company to rectify the deceptive packages in the interest of consumers and compounded the case for Rs 28000 for violating other provisions of the rules. |
