EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 12: Jashan-e-Virasat on Saturday was celebrated at Government College for Women (GWC) Gandhi Nagar, in which artist's who have been contributing in the field of Dogri folk music, were awarded with 'Virasat Shri'. The function was inaugurated by Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment Abdul Gani Malik and presided by Rama Pandey administrator of Montage Films. In her address, Rama said that they would ignite the spark in youth to enlighten the future of India. "You must take the responsibility of Virasat on their shoulders" she asked to youth. Artist including Ramalo Ram, Haji Ghulam Mohammad Dansalia, Pradhuman Singh and Krishna Kumari were awarded with 'Virasat Shri' for the their contribution in the field of Dogri folk music including Bakh and Bheint. Inder Singh, Chairman Himalayan Heritage Museum was also awarded for collecting and displaying objects having scientific, historical and artistic value. Earlier, a clip was also shown on Jania Apna J&K (know your J&K) through Jania Apna Desh programme which is being run on various Doordarshan channels for the last eight years. 100 years old Virasat Trophy was handed over to the students of GDC Doda and GCW Parade for six months each for both colleges, on the performance in preserving heritage. The Mashal (Torch) was handed over to the young students as a symbolic gesture indicating the passing on of the responsibility of conservation and preservation of our rich culture and heritage to the youth. Quiz, Chajja making and folk dance competitions were also held in the festival, in which various colleges from Jammu division have taken part.
