Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 12: The Panchayat members and former VLW of Neegu panchayat halqa in Chadoora block of Budgam district have agreed to pay back the swindled money to the poor villager after Early Times published the story regarding this matter few days back .
The Rural Development Department and the members of the Panchayat are in dock again for their alleged role in promoting and being involved in corruption at grass root level in central Kashmir's Budgam district. As per details available with Early Times a poor villager belonging to scheduled tribe Gujjar community from Neegu village of Chadoora block in Budgam district was asked to pay a bribe of Rs 6000 for getting enlisted under rural housing scheme commonly known as Indira Awaas Yojna (IAY). The poor villager has approached Commissioner Secretary Rural Development Farooq Ahmad Peer who has initiated a probe.
Pertinent to mention here that a poor villager Nazir Ahmad Deedad who works as a daily labourer was entitled under Indira Awaas Yojna in 2012 as the man belongs to Below Poverty Line (BPL) family. The man who earns hardly Rs 100 per day by working as a carpet weaver was forced by Panchayat members and the VLW of Neegu village to pay them bribe so that he gets the requisite Rs 48,500. The villager has filed a complaint before Ministry of Rural Development, New Delhi also.
Nazir in his complaint addressed to Secretary Rural Development Govt of India and Commissioner Secretary Rural Development J&K had said that he was enlisted in IAY beneficiary list by the local panchayat last year 2012 but after receiving 1st instalment of Rs 25,000 the Village Level Worker Mohammad Shafi (Panchayat Secretary) who was posted in the village that time forcibly took Rs 2000 from him.
The local panchayat members and VLW who had taken bribe from the Nazir Ahmad Deedad the IAY beneficiary have given in writing that they will pay back the money to Nazir Ahmad Deedad revealed Deedad while talking to Early Times.
Pertinent to mention here that earlier also last year another Sarpanch of neighbouring Kutabal panchayat in Chadoora block Aslam Khan and his father Ahad Khan had embezzled Rs 13 lakhs under IAY scheme but till date no action was taken against the duo and the said matter was reported by local as well as National media.
