| Disapproval of meeting between Hurriyat leaders and Hafiz Saeed intriguing | | Congress's Flawed Kashmir Policy | | Neha JAMMU, Jan 12: First the Congress-led UPA Government allows Kashmiri separatists to visit Pakistan to flirt with the aggressive Pakistani leadership and then the cornered Congress disapproves of their meetings with terrorists like Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) chief and the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahiddin (HM) chief and United Jihad Council (UJC) chairman Sayeed Salahuddin - both part of Pakistani establishment. First the Congress-led UPA Government, in collaboration with NC-Congress coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir, facilitates the Kashmiri separatists' visit to Pakistan and then the Congress expresses its concern over the meetings between them and the Pakistani leadership. Yesterday, the Congress came out with a strong statement against the Hurriyat leaders, including APHC-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who visited Pakistan last month and met with various Pakistani leaders and terrorists like Hafiz Saeed and Sayeed Salahuddin to discuss ways and means of achieving separation of the State from India. "I think that was an unfortunate incident. People going to Pakistan is not a problem with us but if the groups from here go and breach trust and meet the agencies of people in Pakistan who are particularly anti-Indian, that needs to be stopped," party spokesperson MP Sandip Dikshit said. "The group (seven-member delegation of APHC-M leaders) had gone to Pakistan but it was not the intention of the Government of India that they go and meet Hafiz Saeed," he also said. Dikshit disapproved of the meetings between APHC-M leaders and Hafiz Saeed and Sayeed Salahuddin when told by reporters that the "report had it that the duo (Saeed and Salahuddin) had told the delegation that armed militancy would revive in the Valley in 2014". It is clear that when questioned and attacked, the cornered and controversial Congress terms the meetings between them as a "breach of trust" and "anti-Indian". It's strange; it's disgusting; it's not good politics; it's politics that has only promoted the otherwise irrelevant and unpopular Kashmiri separatists and mercenaries and that has simply enabled Pakistan to play its nefarious games in Jammu and Kashmir with a view to fomenting anti-India troubles in the Kashmir valley, the real trouble spot. Something is fundamentally wrong with the Congress party. It has no clear-cut Kashmir policy. Nor does it know how to handle a handful of Kashmiri separatists and Pakistan, which is considered as a rogue and failed State by the international community. "It is party that has", according to many people, "brought only shame to India by its irresponsible conduct" and "willingly allowed fissiparous tendencies to grow and assume alarming proportions". The Congress needs to adopt a rational and national policy towards Kashmir and Pakistan so that those who have been posing a live challenge to the unity and territorial integrity of India are not only isolated but also brought to justice. The Congress-led UPA Government has to evolve and implement a policy that very strictly bans visit of Kashmiri separatists to Pakistan, as also ban their meeting with visiting Pakistan leaders in the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. It has become imperative. It has also become imperative to snap all ties, including diplomatic and economic ties, with Pakistan considering the inhuman manner in which they killed our soldiers Hem Raj and Sudhakar Singh and mutilated their bodies and chopped of the head of martyr Hem Raj. This is the demand of the outraged nation and exigency of the time. |
