| Fresh fears in Valley, two elected panchayat members attacked in 24 hrs | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Jan 12: Suspected militants today targeted one woman panch Zoona Begum wife of Mohammad Ramzan Dar of Hardeshiva, Sopore who was shot outside her house this evening, sources said. They added that woman panch was critically injured and was rushed to the nearby Hospital from where she was referred to SKIMS Srinagar owing to her critical condition. According to locals of the area, a bullet hit Zoona on her neck leaving her severely injured. Pertinent to mention here that this is second such attack on elected representatives to panchayats in the area from last 24 hours Earlier, some unidentified gun men shot dead a Sarpanch and ruling Congress worker in North Kashmir's Sopore area on Friday morning creating panic among the Panchayat members. Identified as Sarpanch Habibullah Mir son of Mohammad Akbar Mir of Gooripora Bomai in Sopore area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district was shot at by unidentified gun men in his village on Friday morning. The killing took place only a week after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had assured Panchs and Sarpanchs that Government will do everything to make Panchayat members and their functioning secure. And this was the fourth killing of Panchayat members since 2011 Panchayat elections in State. Three of the 4 killings took place in Baramulla district only and police have arrested the killers of the two Panchayat members of Baramulla district. |
