| BJP condemns killing of Sarpanch in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Jan 12 : Senior BJP leader and National Executive Member, Dr. Nirmal Singh, today condemned the yesterday killing of Habibullah Mir, Sarpanch of Goripora village in Sopore Tehsil and many more elected Panchayat members during the last two years. Deprecating this hideous act by chicken-hearted terrorists, Dr. Singh said that each shot fired at unsecured Panchayat members in Jammu and Kashmir is betrayal of national interest by the NC-Congress coalition Government of J&K and Congress led Govt. of India. Holding the Govt. of J&K accountable for the killings, he said that the fact is that the State Govt. has not empowered the Panchayats even after giving false assurances for more than a decade. He added that not ensuring security of their lives proves the NC-Cong alliance does not want democracy to flourish in this trouble torn State. Questioning the intentions of the Ruling elite he explained that the so called representatives who were at the helm of affairs during the last six decades could not do which these village leaders could achieve by participating in Panchayat elections. He said that these brave hearts have served the cause of the people of J&K by reposing their confidence in the Indian constitution. The fact of the matter is that despite the threats by terrorist organization to the elected Panchayat members to 'resign or face consequences' the Govt. of J&K never provided any security to them. Dr. Singh said that these Panchs and Sarpanchs are the pillars of grass-root democracy in the state; they are the torch bearers of democracy. The fact is that the Govt. has provided security to large number of people especially the leaders of ruling party without any rationale and only to raise their status in the eyes of poor tax payers, but not to the duly elected Panchayat members who deserve most in the present scenario. He demanded that the Govt. should re-examine the whole Security system and withdraw security personals from non deserving political leaders. He added that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah keeps Tweeting on funny and useless matters, but gives insignificant responses to such atrocious acts of violence as has been also witnessed in case of Uri and Mendhar cross border firing and killing of two Indian soldiers and mutilation of their bodies. |
