| Protest against suspension of two students at GDC R S Pura | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 14: Demanding immediate cancellation of suspension orders against two students, thousands of students of RS Pura Government Degree College (GDC) along with their parents on Monday morning, staged protest demonstration at college gate. The students also boycotted their assignment test in support of the protesting students, who are observing fast-unto death strike since last five days. Pertinently, two college students Deepak and Rahul Raina were suspended by college administration after they had raised voice against harassment of girls by a college professor. Demanding immediate cancellation of their suspension, duo was observing fast unto death strike since last five days and was spending days and nights in open and chilly cold conditions, but college administration was unmoved so far. On Monday morning, thousands of college students along with their family members mostly the women, assembled at college gate and staged protest under the aegis of Progressive Students Association (PSA). Eyewitness said that the College Principal had to bear the anger of protesters especially the local women, who had a scuffle with college Principal also. The civil society members of RS Pura also extended their support to protesting students and also took up matter with the College Principal. The civil society members and parents of students had a long discussion with college Principal and also with Superintendent of Police, but the college principal denied to accept any demand of protesters. President of PSA Jammu University, Manik said that the civil society members of RS Pura have also extended their full support to them and they would continue their struggle till their demands would not be accepted. The protesters appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene in the matter and accept the demand of students. Till last reports poured in fast unto death of two students was continue and condition of one of the protester Deepak was deteriorating. |
