| Baig equates NC to Ravana | | Looks for Rama, Hanuman to vanquish it | | early times report Jammu, Jan 14: Equating National Conference (NC) to demon king , Ravana, former Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Husain Baig wondered if there was a Rama and Hanuman to vanquish it. "Like Ravana, NC has seven heads and we are forced to hold this view because of NC ideologue, Sheikh Nazir's recent statement wherein he accused Jawahar Lal Nehru of backing out on his promise of plebiscite", he said. Flanked by senior and teusted ministers of Omar Abdullah, Nazir urged New Delhi to hold plebiscite as promised. Admitting their right to express their views, Baig asked them if they were entitled to seek benefit of constitution of India while repudiating the same constitution as well as the constitution of J&K which provides that J&K is an integral part of India. "The demand for plebiscite amounts to an assertion that J&K is not an integral part of India. It is on this ground that the Legendary Justice Fazal Ali had held that demand for plebiscite was unconstitutional and plebiscite front, patronized and led by Late Sheikh Abdullah, was an illegal organization", he made clear. The legal luminary said that any organization that demands plebiscite is an unlawful organization under the unlawful Activities Act and Constitution of Jammu Kashmir. "How can the members of an unlawful organization, therefore, be ministers?" The former Deputy Chief minister said that the members of NC who have become members of State Legislature / council of Ministers have Sworn oath of allegiance to the constitution of the state and to uphold India's territorial integrity at various stages. First, while filing nomination papers for election, secondly, while taking oath as members of Legislature and finally while taking oath as Ministers. Has NC's demand for plebiscite not resulted in violation of these oaths and disentitled its members from remaining as members of Legislature / council of Ministers ?. Baig also posed other questions to the NC.Isn't there an ideological and political similarity between members of Huriyat Conference and National Conference in as much as both demand that plebiscite be held in J&K ?. If so, why should, Hurriyat Conference be treated as enemies, and National Conference allowed to rule the State ?. He also reminded the NC of the relevance of UN resolutions. Are the leaders of NC not aware that U.N resolution on Kashmir were passed under chapter VI of the U.N Charter, and therefore, they are only recommendatory and are not binding on India or Pakistan? Only resolution passed under chapter VII of U.N Charter are binding on the concerned member states of U.N. Saying that the Simla agreement had superseded the UN Resolutions, Baig said it empowers the two countries to settle the Jammu Kashmir dispute through bilateral negotiations. Baig made clear that the NC had no moral ground to demand plebiscite at this stage. 'The lebiscite ront was dissolved by Sher-e-kashmir in 1975 after assuming the office of Chief Minister", he said. Is NC blackmailing Indian State and Congress Party to make sure that they should always be allowed to rule J&K State or else they will revive Plebiscite Front ? Holding NC responsible for uncertainty in the state and strained relations between India and Pakistan, Baig said NC has drowned three generations in a sea of confusion, alienation and violence. He said Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah have assumed the role of secular Nationalists, professing to be friends of Congress for many generations, while aligning with BJP, when congress was out of power. "On the other hand party bosses of NC like Jenab Sheikh Nazir and Dr. Mustafa Kamal, members of the same family, condemn India and congress as treacherous enemies and now they openly harp on the slogan of plebiscite." Baig appealed to all the people of the state, particularly the young generation to see through this treacherous and hypocritical game of NC and reject them with all the moral and political force at their command. "If Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah are sincere nationalists, they must expel Sheikh Nazir Ahmed and Mustafa Kamaal from party and along-with those ministers who flanked Sheikh Nazir Ahmed, when he demanded plebiscite? However, despite that the pro-plebiscite ideology of NC cadre will never change", he said. |
