1/14/2013 11:37:12 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Jan 14: People from far flung areas of District Bandipora protested in Srinagar today against the forest officials posted in the area.

People from Sadrkot- Bala and from other villages of the area alleged that they have applied for forest wood in 2007 and are repeatedly visiting the forest department for their share but every year they are denied the wood and the same quantity of wood is distributed among the high profile people of the area after taking huge sum of money from them through a channel of mediators between the concerned forest officials and the high profile people in the area.
"It was in the year 2007, when I applied for 60 ft of wood for the construction of my house and till date thousands of forest trees were cut, distributed among people but the same department is denying me just 60 ft to complete the pending construction of my house, which is unjustifiable," said Muhammad Ashraf, one protestor The Village head, Abdul Salam Rather of the area alleged that the concerned forest officials sell a huge quantity of wood to the people who pay them higher rates and deny the poor and needy people their due share.
