| End 'discrimination' with JK lawyers: Bhim Singh to Bar Council of India | | | Jammu, Jan 14: Senior executive member of the Supreme Court Bar Association Prof Bhim Singh Monday advocated for the enforcement of Advocates Act, 1961 to democratize the Bar Council of J&K to bring J&K Bar Council at par with all other State Bar Councils in the country. Addressing a special meeting of advocates at the auditorium of Delhi Bar Council on Monday, Prof Singh said that there was no Bar Council in J&K and "so-called" Bar Council of J&K is headed by the Chief Justice as ex-officio, being the Chief Justice and the Judges of the High Court act as members. "The Advocates Act 1961 has been enforced with the result that thousands of Lawyers in J&K have remained denied of sharing their democratic rights being integral part of the Union," he said. He sought the support of the Bar Council of India in this regard so that the "elite class" may also share the democratic process in J&K and feel the pulse of India democracy. Earlier, Prof Singh received memento from the President of Delhi Bar Council on behalf of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
