| Official apathy hampers installation | | CCTV camera in Kishtwar | | Asif Iqbal Naik Kishtwar, Feb 1: Despite government announcement, the installation of CCTV cameras in sensitive mountainous District of Kishtwar seems a distant dream as the police and administration seem undecided over the issue. Two months after a police team led by Additional SP Kishtwar Kulbir Singh and comprising Dy. SP HQ Kishtwar Farooq Qasar inspected various sensitive spots in the town where the team believed cameras need to be installed; the project has not made any headway. The police sources said that beside Bus stand, police intend to install CCTV cameras at busy Shaheedi Chowk , Hidyal Chowk, outside shrines of Suffi saints , Guldahli Chowk, Hospital Chowk, outside police station and other important public places to keep strict vigil on unscrupulous elements. The aim and object of installation of CCTV cameras is not only to check militancy related activities, but also to keep check on eve teasing, thefts and also traffic violations. The concerned MLA, now MOS Home Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo also gave the green signal but the projects has not taken off yet. It is worth mentioning here that the government decided to install CCTV cameras in Kishtwar and Rajouri after both these district witness communal clashes in recent past. The clashes caused damage to life and property. |
