2/1/2013 11:40:11 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 1: Expressing grave concern over the growing unrest amongst the SPOs and Home Guards of the State, due to the apathetic and indifferent approach of the government towards their issues, Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) Chairman and MLA Harsh Dev Singh urged upon the government to fulfill their legitimate demands.
Harsh Dev Singh insisted for formulation of a definite policy for regularization of their services in conformity with the policy framed for regularization of other categories of adhoc, temporary and contractual employees in various other government departments. Singh said that the SPOs are performing a very significant role in security operations and maintaining law and order in the State but are being disregarded and ignored by the successive governments despite repeated assurances to redress their grievances.
He further demanded fixation a specific number of seats in Police recruitments for SPOs. Harsh Dev Singh further demanded increase in the honorarium of SPOs. He ridiculed the govt. for the meager honorarium of Rs 3000 per month being given to SPOs despite their round the clock services. Singh further demanded extension of the benefits of SRO 43 to cover the SPOs as well. He said this was necessary in view of larger threat element associated with this category of employees. He further demanded adequate payment of ex-gratia to the dependants of SPOs on identical Lines and on the analogy of regular constables. He further demanded clearance of all dues and arrears of wages of SPOs and VDC members. Harsh Dev Singh also expressed concern over the plight of VDCs, Home Guards and the govt. apathy towards their issues. He urged upon the govt. to address their genuine issues and take immediate measures for fulfilling their long pending demands as assured repeatedly by it.
