Kathua, Feb 8: Sericulture Development Department, Kathua organized a Kissan Mela at Tharakalwal, Tehsil Billawar, here today to aware the farmers about the latest techniques of silkworm rearing and plantation. Minister of State (I.C) for Fisheries, Cooperatives nd MOS for Finance and Planning, Hr.Edu., Forests, Environment & Ecology, Labour & Transport was the Chief Guest. A large number of farmers of sericulture and allied sectors participated in the camp. Project Officer, Kathua Aman Ullah Sheikh welcomed the Chief Guest, Director Sericulture J&K and other participants especially Panchayat Heads, Panches and farmers in the camp. Speaking on the occasion, Aman Ullah Sheikh gave a brief account of the progress made in sericulture sector in Kathua. The department of sericulture distributed about 122100 mulberry plants under Centrally Sponsored Catalytic Dev. Programme. 1.98 lac plants were distributed to farmers through MG-NREGA. Director, Sericulture J&K in his address gave the details of various schemes being implemented by Sericulture Dev. Department in the State of J&K. There are 87 mulberry nurseries existing in the Jammu province for production of Mulberry Plants being supplied to beneficiaries for plantation to grow silk cocoons. 19000 ounces of silkworm seed was distributed every year in the province and 6.02 lac kgs cocoon crop produced annually. |
