| `NC public meetings a mere eye wash' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 8: The drama at National Conference (NC) headquarters Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan here has gripped the entire State as people, come along with their demands, from all over the State are trying to meet Ministers, who are following the roaster issued by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah couple of days back. However, the meetings seem an exercise in futility as only those people are given time who have some sort of proximity with the NC and is accompanied by party leaders. Those who come alone to seek any help from Ministers are not given time and are made to wait outside the gate. In a bid to appease people within the party who are disgruntled with the party leadership for past few years, the Chief Minister urged his Ministers to meet them to address their problems. This political stunt by the NC working president is to rope such people back in the party fold ahead of 2014 elections. Today Finance Minister attended the public hearing at party headquarters here in presence of provincial president Devender Singh Rana. Irony is that not a single NC leader raised the issue of killing of 12-year old student of Delhi Public School (DPS) by the school bus and even the Minister refrained from making any statement in this regard. Everybody knows that DPS belongs to a senior NC leader and government will refrain from taking any action against the school as it will hurt their political interest. This has put a question mark on the public hearing and word of mouth is spread and questions are being raised whether it was really a public hearing exercise by the NC Ministers or only a drama to send a message to party workers at ground level that they were available for them. The meetings did not change anything on the ground. Not a single bureaucrat was called by Minister to actually follow up the grievances of common man. These Ministers only forward applications to bureaucrats who only act on those applications which have official stamp of Minister and rest are put in the dustbin. |
