Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 8: The Gujjar Community has urged the Congress party to nominate a prominent Gujjar leader from Rajouri district as MLC. The election to eight seats of the Legislative Council is scheduled to be held in March. The seats shall fall vacant as eight MLCs are retiring shortly. Giving a brief profile of Rajouri district, the community said: "There are 4 Assembly constituencies in Rajouri Danhal, Budal (about 60% are Gujjar Bakerwal), Rajouri Constituency (about 45% Gujjar Bakerwal), Kalakote Constituency (about 45% Gujjar Bakerwal) and Noushera constituency (about 20% Gujjar Bakerwal)." Data with respect to Jammu and other districts was also furnished. According to the data, in district Jammu, the Gujjar Bakerwal Community has extremely less population and in Gulabgarh area (Ramban Distt.) there is about 30% population of Gujjar Bakerwal Community. The data further said there are 4 MLCs from district Poonch. Two of them belong to Kashmiri Community, one from Gujjar Bakerwal Community and one from Pahari Community. Alleging discrimination, the community said that nobody has been nominated from amongst them notwithstanding their number which, according to them, constitutes 45% of the population. |
