| FIR against 124 union members, 7 more held today | | Samba SIDCO siege | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu/Samba, Feb 8: In its drive against the Samba Truck Union members for violation of section 144 Cr PC, police today arrested seven more persons. However, hunt on to arrest 53 union members. According to police sources about 124 union members of truck and drivers have been booked for breaching peace i.e. violation of 144 CrPC imposed by district administration. Of 124 about 64 have already arrested and seven more were held today's crack down. Pertinently, union members alleging that they were ignored and vehicles from outside were given priority for loading and un-loading in industrial sector started a campaign and blocked the truckers movement to Industrial Complex. While truckers made this plea the business entrepreneurs at industrial complex alleged the trucker union for blackmailing the truck operators and the industrialists by over charging and restricting the entry of truckers from outside the Samba industrial area. The matter further took ugly turn when blockades continued for some days and then civil administration imposed section 144 CrPC. Acting on the directives and taking note of the violation of Section 144 CrPC, the Police led by Additional SP Samba, Dr Koushal Sharma arrested at least 62 members of Truck Union Samba led by Rajinder Singh alias Raju of Sangwali Mandi, Samba and some drivers. The arrested persons were lodged in different Police Stations and five case FIRs were registered against them. Meanwhile SSP Samba Israr Khan when contacted said that to break the ice, police has already submitted its request to the civil administration to fix the reasonable rates of fair for trucks and other commercial vehicles. "But those who violate the law will be dealt strictly", he said.
