| Jammu University employees' strike enters 5th day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 8: The token strike by all Class 4th Employee Union and casual labourers of University of Jammu entered into 5th day today. Both the Unions of Non-Teaching and NGEU's employees came out from their departments and gathered in front of Administrative block and shouted slogans in support of their demands. In the morning the Authority had called the Union members of NGEU, but the Union came out without any resolution. Meanwhile both the Unions of University NGEU and NTEU started the rally but the Registrar of the University came out from their office with an appeal which he read in the rally. But the employees rejected the appeal because the appeal did not satisfy the employees. The striking employees said the issue of regularization of contractual/casual labourers who have been engaged in the University for the last 7 years or more is also under active consideration of the authorities in accordance with the recommendations of 73rd University Council meeting held on 18th Oct last year. The Vice Chancellor had personally discussed the issue with the Financial Advisor of Universities and the Vice Chancellor as well on 7th Feb. The financial advisor had assured for early disposal of the matter which subsequently would be recommended to the Hon'ble Chancellor for approval. .The sriking employees wanted written assurance material from the Authority. Unless this is the union of NGEU has decided to continue the strike from Monday as routine and extend its agitation to close the messes of the hostels and all the campuses of Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Kathua, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi etc. |
