Polls for LC seats on Mar 7, notification on Feb 11

Jammu, Feb 8: In what can send political parties in the swift mode with regard to preparations for the polls for 8 seats of Legislative Council, the government has chalked out the schedule for the election process which will be set into motion with issuance of notification on Monday, February 11. Elections would be held for the seats on March 7.
Sources said Assembly Secretariat has drawn up the schedule in consultation with the government and this would be officially declared on Monday with formal notification for the polls. Sources said though only one notification would be issued for all 8 seats, there would be three separate ballot papers , one for four seats of Kashmir , other for three seats of Jammu and the third for the reserved seat of Doda district. The contest will however, be only for four seats of Kashmir and three seats of Jammu, sources added.
As per the schedule drawn, while notification is being issued on February 11, nominations would be asked to be filed by the parties from February 11 to Feb 18. On Feb 19, there would scrutiny of nomination papers whereas by 21st of this month the candidates can take back their names if they decided to be out of contest.
With issuance of notification, the political parties which are already in the process of finalizing names against seats getting vacant, would expedite the things in direction of making suitable choices , particularly for those seats where contest would actually take place. A number of senior leaders and functionaries both within ruling allies NC and Congress are busy in hectic lobbying to get their names through against the seats where coalition win is a foregone conclusion as per the numbers in electoral college. Opposition PDP is also gearing up and in the process of finalizing names for at least two seats one each from Kashmir and Jammu, on which it can register victory comfortably
