| CPG inaugurates post office festival in Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Feb 21: Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle John Samuel today inaugurated post office festival and philately exhibition in this border district. This is for the first time Department of Posts organized such a festival aimed at strengthening the bonds and also aware the people about various services being offered by the India Post in Rajouri. The inaugural function held at Himalayan Degree College, Chenani Bagla, Rajouri amidst the presence of large number of people and hundreds of College and school children. Two special covers on "Chingus Fort" and "Poonch Fort" were released by Samuel on the occasion which was followed by quiz competition and philately workshop for the school children. Speaking on the occasion Samuel said the people in rural and hilly areas still prefer Post Office for investment and other saving schemes adding that Department of Posts has strengthened its bonds with the common masses by adopting the latest technology in its operations. "People love to invest and rely on Post Offices in countryside rather than Banks or other financial institutions as their relations with Post Offices are decades old and strong," he said. He informed that in Rajouri and Poonch districts, J&K Postal Circle has taken the responsibility of scholarship distribution (offered by Govt.) to over 55000 beneficiaries (school children) who have opened their accounts with the post offices. Describing philately as "Hobby of Kings and Kings of all Hobbies," Samuel said it is one of the best ways of learning as well as earning. During the philately exhibition more than 21000 postal stamps on historical, cultural and other themes were put on display which was visited by hundreds of people from different walks of life. |
